Rad - Sadist/Masochist 7"

I fucking love this single. Bought it at one of the most memorable shows I attended in 2009.

*here's the fyer

All is Fleeting was selling them for mad cheap at the show because since Rad wasn't a band anymore by that time, and they shared some members.

This is a 2 song 7" that is hard not to turn back over as soon as each song ends. Not much else to say about it. I don't get why they broke up, they do the modern Youth of Today sound so damn good. Bummed I never got to see them, although I had the chance once but I showed up to that show late. Fuck.

Mother of Mercy - Passing Through the Fire 7"

Some guy on B9 had a long list of lots of shit I had been wanting for a while, records and merch. I didn't have too much to offer, so I picked out 2 things, this & a Shipwreck windbreaker. Surprised me when he accepted the offer.

This isn't even a plain version of the 3-song 7". It's the Sound & Fury 2008 cover. I did not attend the fest in '08. I didn't even know of Mother of Mercy at the time. This is from when MoM was just the side-project of that douche bag from letXdown straight fucking edge. Lol.

Specifcs:

Iron Age - Constant Struggle 12"

In early 2009, as I awaited the band announcements for Sound & Fury, the band I most hoped would be on the line-up was Iron Age. I was rewarded to find out that they were indeed on the line-up.

They had this re-issue for sale at the fest, and I could not pass up owning one of the best records of the last decade.

Too bad the hole in the middle is too fucking small to go in the shit on my record player... =/

Pressvre - Beasts 7"

Picked this up with their split 12" with COA together for a discounted price the first time I saw them, which was at some show at Chain Reaction.

If I'm remembering correctly, this was the same show I saw Alpha & Omega for the first time. I was there mainly because it was Rotting Out's record release show for This Is Just A Life. It was the first show I went to that year, early January 2009. While I got there as early as doors opened to make sure I got the record release version, I had definitely arrived earlier than the 7"s, as all the merch except for the record was out. I hung out away from the merch area for a while, but I should've noticed someone bringing in the box of them. I never saw shit, so before they went on which was later in the night, I asked and they said they sold out of them. Apparently they had come a little while after doors opened, and I missed them. Both different versions. Fuck

So since I had extra money since there were no more RO 7"s to buy, I bought this. Pressvre was pretty good, and I enjoyed them the two or three other times I saw them, but I still haven't been particularly fond of this or the split 12". Hmm.

Downpresser - Age of Ignorance 7"

When the pre-order for Downpresser's Age of Ignorance 7" went up, I immediately bought all three colors. This is the green version, the second most rare color, out of 300. This is my favorite color of the three.

Specifics:

Downpresser - Age of Ignorance (Green Colorlight) /300

Sabertooth Zombie - Dent Face 7"

This is the first Sabertooth Zombie release that grabbed my attention. I don't think anyone could get through the first song and not want to continue listening. Shit is so hard without even trying to be.

I found this crucial seven inches of greatness at one of my visits to Amoeba Hollywood. It was the first record I ever bought that had no labels. It confused me at first. Now, I associate label-less records with STZ. This is because a bunch of their records have no labels on them. Go figure!

After I bought the record I finally realized, being able to look at the cover up close, who the person on the front is. It is Chris Crocker, infamous for making this classic video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc How they chose to include this joke in their artwork, I have no idea. The art associated with STZ and their members is always way out of the fucking box and I suppose it's just another one of many appeals the band has.

The Wonder Years / All Or Nothing - Distances 7"

From the release of their first full-length, up until The Upsides came out and every little mosh metalcore pussy pop mixed with pop-punk kid started hanging from their nuts, I was a proud fan of The Wonder Years. When I first heard this split, The Wonder Years songs sounded bland and seemed to almost bore me to death. And then I heard the All or Nothing side. What I heard when I listened to their side was a nice combination of influence-elements. The huge hardcore reminiscent guitar riff at the very start, the melodic dual vocals similar in style to the likes of Latterman or Tell All Your Friends-era Taking Back Sunday. It all fits and is a strong set of songs likely to keep you stoked on the genre. Only bummer is while the digital version comes with three All or Nothing songs, the 3rd is omitted from the vinyl. Not enough space on the wax I guess. Unfortunate, considering I like track 3 of the AoN songs more than track 2.

The Wonder Years songs from the 7" would eventually grow on me, and become my two favorite songs from their entire catalog. This is a staple in today's group of recent pop-punk records.

I pre-ordered the most limited color version of the 7", which I believe was clear with red spatter or something like that, out of something like 200. I instead received the blue version, out of 400. I was going to bitch and try to get them to swap me the color I actually ordered, but by the time the label had the records sent out, the pressing was sold out. At least I got to snag a copy at all! And the blue color would turn out rewarding, going with the tradition of being one of my favorite recent pop-punk albums, and being blue.

Transit - Stay Home 12"

Another purchase made at Sound & Fury 2010. I wasn't familiar with the songs from this release at the time, but I did enjoy what I had previously heard from them. The main reason I bought this was because, as mentioned in previous posts, I had saved an impressive amount of $$ just to spend on shit like this at the event, and I was snatching up all of Transit's other available records, and figured I would get into this EP eventually and would want the record then, as was the case at previous Sound & Fury's (one example of this being Lewd Acts - Black Eye Blues. It was brand new when it was released at S&F '09, and I had never even listened to the band before then. By now, I have realized its greatness, yet I still don't even have it on vinyl! And I feel upset knowing that I once had a chance to cop the S&F release cover version.).

I've already played out Transit's other material, and this slab of wax is actually the one I currently find myself most often spinning. So glad I had the extra money to grab it at the first chance I got.

Cruel Hand - Prying Eyes 12"

One of my favorite records of this generation of hardcore. I picked this up at one of the many many Cruel Hand shows I've seen, I can't precisely remember which show in particular I got it at. It was at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA, my favorite venue to go to shows when I was in high school. It was the first small venue I ever saw a show in, back in 8th grade.

When I took the record out of the sleeve after I got home from the show, I was surprised that I had ended up buying the, I think, most limited color of the record. I have no idea why the band had this color with them on this tour, which I believe was a good year and a half after it had already been out.

Fire & Ice - Gods and Devils 7"

I would definitely say that this is the best debut 7" from 2009. This band more recently released the Grim 7", and are quickly becoming one of the most hyped names in hardcore, playing an easily accomplished awesome set at Sound & Fury 2010. The singer of my band gave me this for free when no one from around here ever jocked them, including him apparently because he didn't even want it. I happened to have just heard the EP myself, and really enjoyed it so I gladly took it off his hands.

I'm also glad that I ended up with this color. They have a lot of variations of all of their records, both plain and colorful. This one looks really cool.

Specifics:

Fire & Ice - Gods and Devils (clear w/ grey and red splatter) /300

Naysayer - No Remorse 7"

I would say that this is my favorite debut 7" of 2009. However, listening to it on vinyl itself, I find out that in the year before I've actually owned it, I've been listening to the mp3s in the wrong order. I've always thought that how the songs flowed together was one of the strongest assets this banger had. Apparently, I've just been listening to them in alphabetical order. No kidding. I will continue to listen to the mp3s this way, as it sounds realllllllyyy really good (seriously try it), and every time I listen to the record itself it will be a different experience.

I bought this along with both of the Circa Survive Re-Issue LP's when they went up at MerchNow. I bought this particular color instead of the much cooler looking clear with rainbow splatter simply because of the fact that that one was available with a much higher limit than this one. And I see why, this is pretty boring compared to that one. I thought this was supposed to be clear/grey, not just grey? Oh well.

Naysayer - No Remorse (clear/grey) /200

Blacklisted - Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God 12"

This is the lone Blacklisted record I am into. I've never bothered listening to their older stuff, as I didn't really get into them until much after I first saw them (which was about the time of the climax of their hardcore/experimental mix-genre career, they became Nirvana after that) on a West Coast tour with Killing The Dream and Have Heart in 08.

I bought it, along with some shirts that ended up not fitting me due to the description lying about the size, from someone on B9. I guess I just happened to really want the record, and at the same time I had enough in my PayPal to afford it, because it was pretty cheap.

It's a pretty fucking cool and unusual color, as always from Deathwish. Not too sure on the specifics as who they use to produce their vinyl, but they do a great job. I'm only slightly into Converge, but I'd definitely be interested in owning the extremely bright neon green/yellow vinyl version of Converge's Axe to Fall. Shit looks like the holy grail.

Blacklisted - Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God (clear w/ blue haze) /1000

Fireworks - All I Have to Offer Is My Own Confusion 12"

This is one of my favorite releases from the year 2009. Run For Cover Records must've been running short on $ or something, causing them to sell packages of all 3 colors of this with all the different colors of Title Fight's "The Last Thing You Forget" together for pretty much the price of the LPs + shipping, with an EXTRA incentive, including a test press of the Fireworks LP in one random package order. I already had the /50 tour version of it, so I jumped at the chance at having a full collection of it, plus maybe I'd be able to flip the Title Fight shit =P

It was a hassle making sure I actually received this. It took months and months of trying to get in contact with Run For Cover to get this shipped out to me after not seeing shit for too long after I paid for it. But I eventually got it, so no complaints here. And they threw in the Agent 7" for the trouble.

Alas, I ended up not getting the test press, so my desire in pursuing Fireworks records ceased. I already sold my tour copy to an avid Fireworks collector. I'm willing to sell my black and white copies of this, but will be keeping the blue for obvious reasons.
